This coming Sunday is Easter Sunday, for ALL of us in the Greek Orthodox church. Easter has a special connotation for Greeks: it represents our personal road towards crucifixion ("Stavrosis") and resurrection ("Anastasis").
We do not just "celebrate" Christ's resurrection from the dead as a simple biblical event. We incorporate the crucifixion-to-resurrection paradigm into our personal lives, on a day to day basis.
In plain terms: life is a road that takes us, through numerous obstacles, towards a journey of personal repention ("metanoia") and salvation ("sotiria"). Greeks live by these principles on a day-to-day basis.
It's part of our "greek-ness".
And it's probably the reason why Greeks are firm believers that "greek-ness" will never die, no matter what...
